This is how we spend our days – 2011

Happy New Year everybody!

In the spirit of fresh starts, here’s what how Lillie’s days look now that she’s almost 11 months old. Hard to believe, huh?

She wakes up when Jason leaves for work, so usually around 7 am. And then she has breakfast, which mostly consists of yogurt & cheerios. She’s decided breastfeeding isn’t efficient enough, so she drinks a bottle with every meal & breastfeeds at night.

And then we play:

She loves all things made from wood pulp.

And then if it is nice we maybe go outside:

And then she usually has a nap around 10:30 am.  She’s pretty good about sleeping for an hour or so, and lets us know in no uncertain terms when she wants up.

Then we usually have an adventure. Sometimes we go play with friends:

And then have lunch around 1 pm:

After lunch we play some more:

Jason usually comes home around 4, and then some days I go to work, and Lillie usually has another short nap until dinner at 5 pm. After dinner she is often quite cranky and sleepy, so we go for a walk:

And have a bath, which is a highlight of both our days:

Jason is in charge of bedtime, which she is amazingly good about (takes after her mama), so after the bath, around 7:30 pm, he reads her stories, usually Time for Bed or Goodnight, Gorilla! and then she gets put down with her blanket.  Most days she sleeps till midnight or so, and I get up to feed her, and then we all sleep till morning.

All in all it is a very good life. Lillie is an incredibly alert and aware child – always observing & always involved. She loves people and loves to talk. Right now she is also starting to test us, which is challenging. She moves like the wind and is very close to walking, but prefers to crawl as she is faster that way.

Hope everyone is doing well – HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This week we are full term! We are now going to the midwives every week, and this week we get two extra special bonuses – a sonogram to check fetal weight and a Strep-B test to find out if I have to have an IV while in labor. YAY!

In preparation, things have been being made:

birdsnest

This is actually not for Turtle.  But it is pretty and was a gift, so it counts.  It is a scarf using the Bird’s Nest pattern from Folk Shawls by Cheryl Oberle, made in very very soft baby camel yarn.

blankie

Every child needs a very soft wool blanket! This one is made in Malabrigo undyed at a gauge of 4 to 1″.  When I laid it out so you could get the full effect, Birdie was very pleased with her new lounging pad:

And then I had to make an Elizabeth Zimmermann February Baby Sweater for the February baby. It matches the neckwarmer I made for my February sister.  And Jason bought me The Knitter’s Book of Wool by Clara Parkes, which has a charming baby bonnet pattern:

The kitties really like to sit on handknits. Sigh.

A lovely neighbor passed down this adorable Petit Bateau jacket, which unfortunately had a big brown stain on it.  Which Lara fixed by dying the whole thing red-orange! How cute is the hood? Supposedly it is a 6 month size.  I’m hoping Turtle can wear it earlier or later since her 6 month birthday is in July.  But perhaps she will need it on cooler nights on the Cape this summer.

Mazel Tov to cousin Sarah! Despite the injured ankle and the long drive to Long Island,  a most excellent time was had by all.  Next time I plan to dance.

In baby news, we had another good appointment today. Turtle is still in excellent position and on track for a late February arrival.  The midwife even said she seemed to be a very cooperative baby! We’ll see how long that lasts.

Do we love our new camera, or what?  Many many thanks to our anonymous donor.

I will tell you there has been some major picture taking, as well as major project-accomplishing, going on around here.  For your viewing pleasure, a small sample:

Baby Shower

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

On Saturday the Turtle was generously feted as the next generation of poking bears!

Thankfully this time I remembered the camera.  Aunt Ti and Mom and the cousins created an extravaganza of balloons, cranes, secret family recipes, stacks of prezzies and good cheer all around.

It is a little hard to tell in this photo, but each of the bags has a little pink dress on it. Katie and Mrs. Sosnoff are very politely waiting for everyone to sit down, or perhaps they are admiring the adorable Miss Abigail, who came with her also adorable mother.

AuntTistack

After a delicious lunch ( I had lobster pot pie) we settled down to the presents. Here is Aunt Ti’s stack of gorgeous goodies, most of which I will wait to show on the actual baby. My lovely cousin Claire has one of the dozens of pink roses that decorated the cake in her hair.

AuntTi

Aunt Ti was not only an excellent hostess, she was very very helpful in organizing all the wrapping and boxes.

Kelton taught everyone to fold origami cranes (which you might remember featured heavily in our wedding) to hang on a frame Mom and Papa designed and built as a mobile for the baby’s’ room. Mom took the frame back to Truro so she could string the remaining cranes, but I should have it soon and will show it off then. You can see the cranes along the mantle in this photo.

The delicious cake was Muffie’s special 7-up cake with coconut frosting, and was, of course, a doll cake and very popular.  Several young ladies had more than one piece.

In keeping with the crane theme,  the favors were these beautiful white ceramic cranes.

Every detail was well thought out and beautifully done.  Much much love to all who made it such a special day, especially the indefatigable Robertson sisters!

Ok.

So I forgot to bring the camera to the shower Jodie & Caitlin threw for me on Saturday.  Blame it on the pregnancy brain. I’m hoping people will take pity on my and send me the photos they took so I can have documentation of this most excellent event.

Meanwhile,  here is the lovely loot!

lootMany more good things that can be listed. I will point out that the stuffed animals were actually mine and after much rehabbing by T. Mother, can now be passed on.  It’s good to have Canterbury and Nicholas and sweet bear home!

Many very cute and clever onesies and bibs were made at the shower, but due to the use of puffy paint they were still drying when I left. I’ll post once I have.

Old photo albums were displayed:

Something for Jason to look forward to!

And Grandpa and me on the then newly upholstered loveseat.

And new albums made:

Daniel cooked delicious brunch – including chocolate chip pancakes and a FABULOUS fruit salad, and a good time was had by all! Thanks to everyone! And send me pictures!

Cleaning House

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

In the face of sadness, I have found that tidying up and reorganizing can go a long way towards getting one’s mental health back on track.  Madeleine died on Saturday night after a long and fierce struggle.  It was good to be with her and family on Saturday, but it is still very sad.  What with all my new free time,  there has been a little too much space to get really bummed out.  So I decided to kill two birds with one stone (no offense to Birdie) and take on some of our many many household projects, in addition to the usual housekeeping, which had fallen a bit by the wayside.

The reorganized mudroom:

mudroom Please note that the kitty box is no longer in evidence.

After researching how others have hidden their litter boxes, we decided to re-purpose one of my craft storage boxes into a  kitty outhouse. It has many advantages, but the real important news is that Birdie and George are now sharing a litter box.  I’m not totally sure that this will work long term, but it certainly neatens up our space.  The big basket is full of Lara’s and my winter woolies, and the little basket has Jason’s. And we even have room for the cat food!

frontporchI also finally cleaned up the front porch.

We’d spent a lot more time out there when it was warm, and apparently so had several spiders and their catches.  It needed a good sweeping and I moved the chairs into the basement and the table into the mudroom.  We’re going to try keeping shoes on the porch over the winter. I think it will work well once it snows and the big boots come out, but right now we just end up with chilly feet in the morning. Jason has been keeping his shoes inside.

kitchen

I also  tidied the kitchen and have been doing loads and loads of laundry.  It is annoying that stuff like place mats and bathroom rugs and dishtowels and hand towels will insist on needing to be washed.

And then I dusted and dismantled the various feline and human nests  in the living room:

livingroom

At some point we need to find homes for all the tools in our coffee table tool basket, but so far they are still in frequent use so I left it alone.

In baby news, we had a midwife appointment on Monday and all is well.  My belly should be growing at about 2 cm a week from now on.  Despite the frequent applications of many different unguents, the first real stretch marks are starting to show.  When they measured me on Monday they said the belly was about 27 weeks size, as opposed the expected 26 weeks, but I think that is probably because of the questionable due date. Turtle’s heartbeat is still about 150, and she is still kicking like crazy.

Next week, we tackle the upstairs!

24 Weeks!

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

It is official – this week I am 6 full months pregnant.

Jason is so pleased he was even laughing while cleaning out the gutters.

bubslaughsonladder

According to the many pregnancy websites,  the baby is now about 1.25 pounds and 8-10 inches long.  She is bumpin’ around like a wild thing, and I was particularly amused this morning by a case of what I think were hiccups visibly vibrating the skin on my stomach.  It feels a lot like internal tickling, except when she really gets going, and then it’s like internal soccer.  It is pretty awesome to have such a clear sense of her, though less fun at 3 am when everyone else is asleep.

It is a little weird that my belly button is starting to distend, but at least it is starting to be more obvious that I’m pregnant.  Today as I walked to the library in town a mom strolling with her infant stopped and asked where I was giving birth, so we’ll see how I do on the T tomorrow!
